The purpose of the conference is to bring together graduate students working with primary sources in Indology so that they can build contacts and present, discuss and publish their research. Since such opportunities are largely lacking for fledgling students of Indology, the first symposium was inspired by a wish to provide a public platform for graduate and post-graduate students to share their work in a co-operative and encouraging atmosphere. This second symposium will maintain the platform which has been initiated, in order not only to help the participants enhance their careers, but also to foster an ongoing dialogue and a sense of community amongst future generations of Indological researchers.

Realising the aspirations of the Oxford organising committee, IIGRS has become an annual event, held at different universities across the United Kingdom. The proceedings of the conference will be published by Oxbow Books Press in the new series entitled Puṣpikā: Tracing Ancient India Through Texts and Traditions. Contributions to Current Research in Indology. Volume II.
